Graphic Design & Illustration

Most recently I have been involved in Package Design of Consumer Beauty Goods as well as Logo and Branding Design. Prior to that my experience covers just about everything from paste-up mechanicals to a seasonal stint as an animator at Hanna-Barbera studios drawing Saturday morning cartoons.

At the renowned Oliphant Press in New York, Ron Gordon introduced me to the beauty of Letterpress and showed me how to hand set hot type for printed materials for The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney, and The New York Public Library to name a few. I also illustrated a couple of frontispieces for his limited-edition hand printed books. At Knoll International I designed Show Room and Trade Show graphics. And I cut my teeth in Package Design at Milton Glaser's studio.

Since then, as the Creative Head for Nilssen Design Associates, I have been working in Beauty Care Packaging with clients that have included ET Browne, American Eagle Outfitters, Colgate-Palmolive, and Bath & Body Works among others.

My skill set includes hands-on design and execution. I am expert in Illustrator and Photoshop. I am also an artist and can illustrate both traditionally and digitally.

I welcome the challenge of distilling a company's ethos down to a single mark, or logo. I thoroughly enjoy the package design process to achieve a successful graphic outcome. And I also enjoy the retouching capabilities of Photoshop. In addition to creating the labeling graphics for several of ET Browne Palmer's lines of products, I also created all of the digital product images as seen on my Recent Package Design page and appearing on the Palmer's website.
